Where VPN Proto fits
v2rayNG is an Android project focused on V2Ray/Xray connections. VPN Proto takes a broader approach: a shared interface for compatible V2Ray profiles and four other VPN technologies. That can be useful when you also connect to a WireGuard server at home or an OpenVPN server at work.
The reason to consider switching is your workflow. VPN Proto offers a focused Connect screen, searchable profiles and a consistent setup flow. It does not claim to replace every advanced feature of a dedicated V2Ray/Xray client.
Check your requirements first
- Share-link compatibility: supported VLESS, VMess, Trojan and Shadowsocks links can be pasted into VPN Proto. Transport and core compatibility still need to be tested.
- Subscriptions: this release focuses on individual profiles. Automatic subscription refresh is not included.
- Routing and extensions: do not assume custom rules or every Xray extension will behave exactly as they do in another client.
- Other protocols: OpenVPN, WireGuard and SSTP can run on Android 7.0+ in this app. IKEv2 needs Android 11+.
For the current capabilities of v2rayNG itself, consult the official v2rayNG project. Features in either app may change between releases.
Try an existing connection profile
- Keep a secure copy of your current configuration and leave your existing client installed during the trial.
- Copy one complete, compatible connection share link from your provider or existing profile.
- In VPN Proto, open Profiles → Add profile → Paste link or text.
- Paste the link, confirm the detected protocol and give it a recognizable name.
- Disconnect the other VPN app, then connect the new profile in VPN Proto and wait for the connection check.
- Test the destinations you actually use. A successful internet check is not proof that every custom routing rule was transferred.
When your current client may remain the better fit
If you depend on a feature that VPN Proto does not implement, keep a client that supports it. Do not delete a working setup until you have verified its replacement on your own phone and network.
VPN Proto is independent from v2rayNG and the V2Fly project. It does not provide proxy accounts or endorse public server lists. Use a server operator you trust, and read the V2Ray setup guide before importing a configuration.
